JOB SUMMARY

This part-time position is responsible for supervising staff and recreation programs at the Kedron Fieldhouse & Aquatic Center. 

  • Two weekends each month, Friday 5 pm-9 pm, Saturday 9 am-6 pm, and Sunday 1 pm-5 pm.   Availability is also needed to cover other shifts on a fill-in basis as needed, including other weekends and weeknights, 5 pm-9 pm.

MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervises, directs, and assists in evaluating assigned staff; responds to employee concerns and problems; directs work; counsels and disciplines personnel. 
  • Supervises and monitors all activities at the Kedron facility, including open gym, classes, open swim, meetings, and special events.
  • Ensures that the Kedron facility is ready for open gym activities.
  • Enforces all applicable City and Fieldhouse rules and regulations.  
  • Monitors facilities for maintenance and repair needs; coordinates with appropriate personnel to resolve problems.
  • Monitors the security of the building and the safety of all participants and attendees.
  • Assists customers; enrolls patrons into classes when necessary, provides information, and resolves problems.
  • Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance; takes messages; refers to appropriate personnel.
  • Reserves facilities and collects related fees.
  • Assists with rescheduling classes as needed; assists with scheduling programs and special events
  • Checks patron identification to verify residency.
  • Coordinates with other City departments after normal business hours as needed.
  • Opens and closes the facility. 
  • Performs janitorial and light maintenance duties as needed.
  • Assists with special events.
  • Performs related duties.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The General Programs Coordinator assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include sports organization guidelines, Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center rules, and City and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of related program leadership, customer service, and administrative duties.   Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to lead assigned program operations at the Kedron Fieldhouse.   Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

  • Contacts are typically with co-workers, volunteers, program participants, and the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed in an office, a recreation facility, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position supervises assigned Recreation Assistants and Recreation Leaders working on the weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge and level of competency are commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
